The Defy Bucktown in waxed canvas has quickly become my favorite backpack of all time. From the moment I unboxed it, I could tell this was something special. The craftsmanship is absolutely phenomenal—every stitch feels deliberate, every seam perfectly executed, and the waxed canvas material is simply gorgeous. It has that rugged, lived-in character that only gets better with age, and I already know this bag is going to look even cooler the more I use it. What really stands out is the build quality. This thing feels bulletproof without being overbuilt for the sake of it. The materials scream durability, but the design is sleek, clean, and functional. It doesn’t lean into that tactical look some heavy-duty bags have—it strikes the perfect balance of urban sophistication and rugged reliability. Functionally, it’s amazing too. The layout is simple and intuitive, with just the right number of compartments to keep things organized without overcomplicating. The zippers glide effortlessly but still feel sturdy enough to last forever. The straps are comfortable even when the bag is loaded up, which makes carrying it a pleasure rather than a chore. Honestly, the Bucktown feels like a bag I’ll own for life. It’s one of those rare purchases that feels worth every penny the moment you start using it. Defy absolutely nailed it with this one, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

The most durable backpack I have ever owned. I work in Mine Rescue in Australia. Most bags last 3 months max. This bag is still going strong after 6 months.

Never had a better bag.

Before The Bucktown, I had successfully destroyed every bag I'd owned. I overstuff. Overweight. Over-index on rough-and-tumble activities bags aren't generally made to handle. None before survived. But this one... 7 years and counting. 15 countries from the Middle to Far East. Some countries multiple times. I've truly never had a more durable bag. Nor one that got better looking with age. Couldn't be a bigger fan of the brand or product. It's heartening to know there are still companies that take pride in making things meant to last. NOTE: I have the wax canvas Bucktown which is no longer made. This ballistic nylon pack is actually even more durable. If that's possible.

Great construction, comfort and utility

The bag is perfect for everyday carry as well as travel. Exceptionally well constructed with multiple options for well placed and secure/protected storage. It was perfect for international travel and allowed me to store a mirrorless camera setup during daytime excursions with rapid accessibility. It is also very stylish and certainly would not distract from any dressier clothing selection. I did obtain the chest strap which, for me, contributed to the comfort of the bag. Very pleased.

One Bag to Rule Them All

The perfect bag. An elusive concept. One bag to rule them all. It’s been a quest I’ve been on for the better part of 2 years - find The One Bag. The One Bag needs to work at your office, when you’re wearing a dress shirt with slacks. It needs to work at a client’s office, when you’re in the absolute best suit you can (barely) afford. And of course it needs to work when you’re actually living the life that all that office time facilitates. The One Bag must be sleek to be-hold, like a pair of skinny jeans, yet somehow actually-hold, like a pair of dad jeans. Lots of useful compartments for organizing your stuff is a must. But you also need enough giant, cavernous space so you can cram stuff in the bag with thoughtless abandon when needed. I’ve purchased so many bags, from so many brands, trying to find the One Bag: Tumi, Aer, Timbuk2, Masterpiece, Chrome, Herschel, Mr. Lentz - Many more. This bag might be the one. If you’re in the Chicago area, definitely drop by their showroom - seeing these bags in person is next level - the internet doesn’t do them justice. The bag designer (Lexi?) was on hand and helped me pick this bag out - she was awesome to work with - very knowledgeable, patient and super cool. Anyway, good luck in your quest!

Amazing EDC

I have been searching for a quality backpack that i can bring with me to the office everyday. When i received my Defy Bucktown backpack. I immediately fell in love. The quality materials that are used, means this backpack will last me years. It has everything i need, to store the gear i need to bring with me everywhere i go. I use this backpack 7 days a week and honestly look forward to using it. Since this initial purchase, i have Since bought two more bags. The ultimate overnighter and the Rover. They are still in the process of being sent to me. This is how much this company has proven themselves in quality and good looks. This bag is the result of a company that cares about there product. You just don't see that anymore. I'll forever be a Defy Bags individual!

Unmatched Quality

I have a bit of an obsession for quality backpacks. And by “a bit” I mean I have… 20 or so? If you feel like that is an absurd amount of backpacks, my wife wholeheartedly agrees with you. Anyway, recently I had a friend over who saw the “collection” and proceeded to make the usual comments. But a new one was “Would you be willing to part with any of them, for the right price?” I thought about it and replied “Yeah, any of them really, except for that one, that one and that one”, pointing to the VerBockel 2.0, Bucktown, and one other non-Defy bag. Nodding toward the Bucktown my friend asked “Are you sure not that one?” “Yeah, I’m sure. That one’s staying with me.” I said. No back-alley backpack sales were made in Denver that day. Of all the Defy products I own (VerBockel 2.0, Bucktown, Wrangler and waxed canvas gear kit), I don’t plan on parting with any of them any time soon. And judging by the quality of materials used and the craftsmanship that goes into making them, they won’t be breaking down and leaving me any time soon either. It’s obvious when a company creates products they are truly passionate about. This bag is about as obvious as it gets.
