Wonder how many of the urban hipsters inhabiting Chicago’s Bucktown area (in the north of the city) know that many years ago it was a goat herder’s paradise replete with open fields as far as the eye could see? Gets the mind pondering, indeed. There’s a visual: modern day bearded goat herding hipsters herding, and being hip, all at the same time. A true collision of the unexpected. A bit like our Bucktown pack.
Designed to be the ultimate daily commuter/carry pack, the Bucktown boasts two large, mega easy to access YKK Water-Repellent VISLON® AquaGuard® Zipper compartments. The outer compartment is perfect for small and large storage alike, with double pockets and pen organization that are all handcrafted using military grade thread and triple stitched at the joints for added durability. We added an external easy to access YKK Water-Repellent VISLON® AquaGuard® Zipper pocket for quick access into the front of the bag.
A solid steel matte black gun clip is a valet you can trust giving your car keys to. Zip up the outer compartment and check out the back one. This compartment has enough storage space and possibilities to make a modern day goat herding hipster blush, replete with a computer section fully lined with thick closed cell foam technology and topped off with 1,000 Denier easy to see inside MIL-SPEC X-Pac™ / VX21 TRUE RED DWR - 1500 material for a cleaner look & finish. The computer section is the first of its kind from DEFY as its not only designed for 17" & 15” MacBook Pros, but also for most other computers of this size. You can also utilize it for added folders, tablets, etc. Now onto the side pockets, perfect for water or beer bottles and each has a solid matte black steel D-ring for hanging a bottle opener, carabiner, keys or whatever the hell you want on it. The back of the bag, bottom and shoulder straps are fully padded with your back in mind and boast more thick closed cell foam technology for comfort. WHAT IS X-PAC?
Not to be mistaken with the WWF wrestler, X-Pac is a composite fabric comprised of multiple layers laminated into a single sheet. The layers in the standard pack cloth consist of a nylon face fabric, a polyester “X-Ply” mesh, a waterproof film and light taffeta backing with a water-resistant coating. Developed and distributed by the sailcloth makers Dimension-Polyant, the company discovered that much of the technology they had developed for making specialized racing sails was also capable of producing a unique bag material. A good sail needs to be as light as possible, whilst strong enough to withstand the forces running through it. To retain its intended shape the fabric needs to be stable across all dimensions. It also needs to survive the elements by not absorbing water and being resistant to UV. With these properties, and with the fabric being relatively accessible, it’s no surprise that cottage industry bag makers jumped on board. In particular, the waterproofness and structure of the fabric was far greater than other lightweight materials used at the time, such as silnylon. The waterproof film provides waterproofness up to 200 PSI, which means packs are pretty much rainproof and don’t gain weight whilst hiking in the rain.

The most amazing backpack I've own to date.
Hubby had this backpack and I used on few occasions. Immediately fell in love with it. The light-weight, sturdiness, is handcrafted to perfection and built to last. Had to order 1 for myself. I have a trip coming up and we are bringing the beloved backpack to see the world!

What a great bag!
I stressed over picking out a bag for a trip to The Netherlands and I ended up chosing the Redrum Bucktown, I made a great choice. One of my primary concerns was easily fitting the bag under an airplane seat, the bag I was replacing always made that a challenge, the dimensions of the Bucktown were just what I was looking for. The X-pac material and Aquaguard zippers were perfect in some rainy days we faced. I added the Mr. Grippy in Oxblood Horween (complimented the bag really well) and was very happy I purchased the sternum strap. All in al the bag was comforatable to carrry on some very long walking days, the moderate (not overly fussy) organization built in to the bag helped me rather than limited me, I was very pleased with my choice. I feel like I got a bag that is tough as nails, looks great, and ticks off so many boxes in terms of space, comfort and carry, I am really happy with my choice.
Great Pack!
As expected, the build quality on this X-pac Redrum Bucktown is the highest. The X-pac material itself is interesting, not something I’m used to. The straps are comfortable, the metal hardware easy to use and appreciated. As is with my Insidious, the built in organization is as easy to use as it is to ignore for the sake of using pouches or other forms of organization. The laptop area in the main pouch is well padded and spacious. The pack is comfortable to wear and fun to use. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Truly impressive bag
I never write reviews. I believe I could count my all-time reviews on one hand. But for this, I had to. I purchased the Bucktown | Black X-PAC™ Exterior X REDRUM Edition with a couple of the REDRUM pouches to match the interior. I loaded it up with my EDC gear and marveled at the well-thought-out organization features of this backpack and the fit and finish. As someone who owns bags from some of the well-known bag manufacturers out there, this backpack truly struck me as something special. I love the material choices, black-on-red color scheme, and the organizational design of the bag are second to none in my opinion. The fact that this bag is made in the USA makes it that much better. For anyone who wants a truly great backpack for EDC, I would highly recommend the Bucktown. So many backpack brands are creating safe, vanilla designs, but not so with Defy. This backpack has a refreshing, unique, and functional design and is one of my favorites.

Best. Backpack. Ever
I very rarely take the time to leave reviews, but with this bag I had to. I missed out on their collaboration with SWAG golf, so I opted to get one from Defy directly. I was not disappointed. This is by far the best backpack I have ever used. I bought it as my new travel backpack to take on vacation, and I just got back from a week in Florida with the family and it exceeded my expectations. Large enough to carry everything I needed on the plane and every single day back and forth from the beach. The durability and storage is second to none and the design is everything you could want in a stylish, rugged pack. It even rained numerous days and the water just beaded off of it, keeping everything inside dry. Not to go on and on, but the devil is in the details. The x-pac fabric looks and feels as good as it gets. The zippers and their stitching are the incredibly heavy duty. The straps are very comfortable and the metal clips to adjust are as easy as it gets. I watched several reviews on top 10 backpack lists, and the ones who didn't list this backpack are crazy. Do yourself a favor, if you are on the fence about the backpack, BUY IT. You can thank me later.
