I need to go home now. I’ve been outside wandering too long. What day is it anyway? People might start to shutter their windows wondering who this wandering person is endlessly walking around with his backpack. I don’t want to become a menace to society. Ever since designing this new backpack I’ve just been finding myself looking for an excuse, any excuse to wear it outside. I have to confess, I even dumped out the last of our coffee beans in the trash so I could ‘volunteer’ to buy more from the store, wearing my new backpack of course. It's great for shopping. There’s truly just something about this bag that’s just so right. The right proportions: Not too big, not too small. The right amount of storage: Not too little, not too much. The right materials: Overkill in every way. And don't even get me started on comfort. I think it’s caused me to forget to eat. This isn’t good. Did anyone hear my stomach rumble? I keep playing with the imported AustriAlpin™ COBRA® Quick-Release buckle too. That ‘click’ sound is the metallic equivalent of a primal scream. That’s the sound of quality. The look of the buckle is so rad it’s menacing my mind I tell you! I just want to keep opening the bag so I get to experience this buckle again, and again, and again. I need to get my head checked. Or do I?
Maybe this menacing mania isn’t menacing at all and is just the thing I’ve needed my whole life. Maybe there will someday be an army of other wanderers and wanderlusters just like me, wearing the same backpack, looking for their reasons to be outside exploring the world 24-7. If that’s considered ‘Menacing’, then consider me someone who will DEFY right along side you. The Menace movement has only just begun.
PROUDLY HAND-CRAFTED IN THE USA

Best
Bought it for an international trip. Love that the bags my cavity holds its shape, making modular packing very easy. Also nice to have a great bag that doesn’t make me feel like a geek. It was a kick as accessory and a great bag.

The BEST Bag in its Category
I was looking for a robust bag around 18L in volume and landed on this. The bag exceeded my expectations. It comfortably carries my 15” MacBook Pro, compact camera, snacks, water, umbrella, and a set of workout clothes with room to spare. It pairs perfectly with the small VOID admin organizer pouch that fits snuggly in the front compartment secured with the Cobra Buckle (the most satisfying buckle to engage with). The design is perfect for my use case and leaves almost no room to waste. And (most importantly) the bag is a looker to boot. I don’t usually write reviews but was compelled to do so for this one. Defy might be the most underrated bag brand on the market currently. Buy with confidence!

Amazing backpack, minor inconveniences
The bag is clearly very well constructed, If my north face bag lasted me almost 10 years of daily use, this will surely last multiple lifetimes haha. One of the tradeoffs for the robust construction of this backpack is the limited space capacity since a lot of the total volume of the bag is taken up by the thick construction. The only thing I might change if I could, is the zippers. After a few weeks of daily use, the aquaguard zippers are still very tough to operate and it takes quite a bit of two-handed effort to open and close the main compartment. I would much rather forgo the water resistance of the zippers if it meant that I could open my bag easier. I highlighted the minor inconveniences of the bag but with all things considered, it is a great daily-use backpack. The organization within the pockets is minimal but ideal. I also like that the water bottle pockets are solid pockets and not some elastic mesh material which often breaks and loosens on my other backpacks. Overall it is a great bag and is the most robust one I have ever used.

Thanks Adam! The zippers will, with enough use and time, get easier to open for sure.

These bags are amazing quality, light, and tough. The black on orange looks awesome.
The best backpack I have ever purchased
If ever my wife divorces me, it'll likely be because I bought too many backpacks. Black Ember. Mission Workshop. Tumi. I even once helped a talented creator design a pack he launched on Kickstarter. I had high expectations for all of them, but each had some detail or missing feature that eventually made them annoying to use. Then I discovered the Defy Menace. This bag is as close to perfect as any backpack I have ever seen, and it really should cost a lot more than it does. First, the fabrication is incredible. I can't find a stitch out of place or a single panel that isn't precisely placed. The 1,050 Denier Nylon has a richness that just feels and looks great (it's actually hard to describe how nice this nylon is), while still maintaining incredible durability. The edge details are gorgeous, and that Cobra buckle really does make you want to open it for no reason at all. Second, this bag is just so well thought out. I can stow a DJI drone, 16" MacBook Pro, 12.9" iPad, binoculars, full size headphones, pens, a flask, and more cords and batteries than a person should have and still have room for a decent hoodie and more. I added the leather gripper and shoulder shlep pads and the whole setup is so nice I imagine my boys will fight over this bag when I die.
