For the first time ever, we have combined two American legends: supple, complex Horween Essex Rookery Leather and heritage TexWax™ Buffalo Plaid Wax Canvas. One represents over a century of Chicago tannery tradition. The other is a timeless waxed canvas built to break in, patina, and tell stories of its own. Together, they form a pairing that feels inevitable and yet has never existed until now.
Each Recon Mini is hand built in our Chicago workshop on the same industrial machines we have used to tear down and rebuild vintage military gear. Our team, with experience at brands like Coach and Tumi, pushes every stitch and seam into place with unapologetic precision. Because DEFY does not do half measures, we have over engineered the closure system with not one but two imported AustriAlpin™ 2" COBRA® Quick Release Buckles. These are the same high strength buckles trusted by Special Forces, rated to hold over 1,000 lbs each, with more than $60 of military grade hardware locking down a minimalist carry. Overkill? Absolutely. That is the point.
Solid steel swivel clips and hardware remind you that plastic does not belong here. Inside, you will find the minimalist’s dream: room for an iPad, notebook, pens, and a few essentials. Under the flap, a clean double pocket system offers just enough organization without the bloat.
