Have you ever created anything in your life you're truly proud of? Something that took 110% of your heart and soul. A creation that was the best of you. Cliches are made of this stuff, we know. But in our case, the Rover is just that. It's a freakin' beast from a production standpoint. It's a freakin' beast from a utility standpoint. And it's the culmination of hard work from our best and brightest School of the Art Institute interns and DEFY production team. It's a true synergistic effect of Badassery!
We were going to call it the 'Kitchen Sink', as we feel we've thrown in everything but that. Rover has: A padded computer pocket, the 'surround sound' equivalent of pockets surrounding the bag's interior, more zippers than a zipper factory, removable MIL-SPEC padded straps with Military MOLLE Webbing and more features than we can list here. We set out to DEFY everything we'd ever achieved before and pushed our team to the limit. It wasn't pretty, and the tensions got high. But we broke on through to the other side and have been carrying the Rover on countless trips, smiling from ear to ear and torture testing it along the way. This is the perfect weekender and can go longer than that! One of our main goals was to create a duffel bag where you can easily see all of your things. This was achieved by the bag's unique, broad and deep zipper configuration.

This TSA Compliant bad boy can be carried over the shoulder, on your back or in your hand. Rover don't mess! He likes to roam, meander, discover, conquer, seek, find. Best of all, Rover will never leave you uncomfortable when your flight is in the farthest gate at the airport and you feel like you need a vacation from your upcoming vacation. Rover's the ultimate Weekender & Duffel.

The Rover now holds the title as the most expensive bag we've ever produced. It's just that intricate, loaded with so many features and takes so much time to sew. To make it so you don't need to mortgage your home, Rover's ONLY going to be sold online; you won't find it in any stores. This helps keep the cost down by selling it directly to you intrepid travelers! Is Rover Luggage? Weekender? A backpack? YES!
Rover's ready. Are you?

PROUDLY HAND-CRAFTED IN THE USA
I chanced upon the exact bag I was dreaming up
I live in Chicago, and I’m writing this on my flight to New York. Up until yesterday, I’d been putting off the fact that I didn’t want to bring a roller bag along on my trip, as I wanted to be able to travel nimbly with my luggage. I envisioned a large-capacity backpack that is designed for air travel as a carry-on. I knew my options were limited on the day before my trip, but I was very pleased to discover Defy through a search, and even more pleased to find their showroom was open for me to stop by. I wasn’t expecting to be this blown away by the bag they helped me pick out — I’m not much of a review writer but I had to drop in to say damn, this thing exceeds any expectations I had for a travel backpack. It feels indestructible, it’s simple, exactly the right amount of pockets and handles, and it makes me look like a techno mercenary. I can highly recommend this bag so far and I get the sense that I’ll be using it for a long time.
Possibly the best travel duffel
I’ve been eyeing this for some time now, and was glad to get a chance to finally take one home. For a travel duffel, this fire edition Rover design, in my opinion, is very hard to beat. First of all, the ballistic nylon works perfect for travelling, besides its slightly lower weight compared to leather, it’s practically weatherproof. The grab handles are a very pleasant plus when the bag is stored in the overhead bins. The backpack straps, to my surprise, are not as bad as I thought they would be and fit well on the curves of my shoulders (I never found myself needing the longer duffel-mode strap). Other features such as the pocket locations, luggage passthrough, etc, all seem to have been really well thought of. All this within the dimensions allowed by most airlines as a carry on. Can’t recommend this enough. Thanks Defy. 👍
Another Winner from Defy: Built for Heavy Loads, Great for Travel or Everyday Use
I’ve been a Defy customer for nearly five years now, and their bags have never let me down. The craftsmanship, materials, and customer service are consistently top-notch. Chris is outstanding—knowledgeable, responsive, and genuinely helpful in guiding you to the right bag. This is my third Defy bag, and as expected, it’s impeccably crafted. Every stitch is perfect, the materials feel indestructible, and the design is incredibly well thought out. The Bag Itself ** Form & Function: The Rover holds its shape beautifully. The D-flap top zipper makes access a breeze—you can stand the bag up, pop it open, and immediately see everything inside. ** Organization: Just right. The internal zipper pockets and admin panel are highly functional, while the inside side pockets add thoughtful extra storage. External stash and zipper pockets offer quick, easy access. ** Durability & Load Capacity: This bag is built for heavy loads. I use it for commuting and travel, regularly carrying 25-30+ lbs. The nylon webbing handles wrap around the entire bottom, reinforcing the structure—you could probably use this for sandbag training (don't try this at home!) It’s rock solid, and I never worry about the weight straining the stitching or materials. ** EPX Blaze Orange Liner: Sturdy and practical. The high-visibility liner is a game-changer in a large bag—I no longer lose small items in a dark abyss. ** The Feel: Everything about this bag feels premium. The Mr. Gripper handles are perfect in hand. The ballistic nylon exterior is rugged, durable, and stays clean. The side grab handles are another fantastic touch. Things to Know ** Size & Compression: This is a big bag. It doesn’t compress much, so if you need a collapsible duffel, look elsewhere. But if you need something that holds its shape and maximizes space, this is perfect. ** Straps: The included strap is wide and well-made, but for heavier loads, I recommend upgrading to a Schlep Pad or swapping in an Ultimate Strap with swivel clips (which works great from my Insidious). ** Weight: This is a heavy bag even when empty. That’s the tradeoff for bombproof materials—I’d rather have durability than a flimsy lightweight bag, but if weight is a concern, keep that in mind. ** Backpack Mode: A solid option, especially at this price point. The straps are easy to install/remove, nicely spaced and sit well on the shoulders. But like most duffels, it doesn’t carry as comfortably when heavily loaded. A sternum strap might help if you plan to use it this way often. Personally, I stick to duffel carry. Final Thoughts For a large, ultra-durable duffel built to haul heavy loads, the Rover is the bag to beat. Every aspect—from the zippers to the straps to the materials—instills confidence. It’s more versatile than I realized, so I am using it way more than I expected. At ~$400, how is this a great value? It just is. You don’t realize what you’re missing until you’ve used one. Now, I just need to win the lottery so I can buy a few more!
Amazing brand and products!
I had VERY high expectations… I came in short
I wanted to use the Rover for a while, before I provided a review. I usually don’t do reviews… I want to congratulate the DEFY team for this work of art and craftsmanship. I have owned several high quality bags, all USA made, and this one, in my opinion, is in a league of its own. Everything that it was promised, was delivered. Whether a take it in a plane, on my motorcycle, in the day to day… Man! It is just fun and as cool as it gets! Thank you ...
Now THIS is a war bag!
I have used lots of different patrol bags over the years, and they all have little quirks or things about them that I don't like. That is NOT the case here. THIS Rover is what I'll be using forever... unless of course there is ever a neon green interior version, and then I'll have two!
